Travels With Maggie/Pat and Pepper
“It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters.” — Ursula k. leGuin
Pat Bean is a writer, avid birder, hiker and passionate nature observer with wanderlust in her soul who spent nine years living and traveling in a small RV, most of that time with an opinionated black cocker spaniel named Maggie by her side. She now lives in a small apartment in Tucson with Pepper, a joyful black Scottie mix.
Pat’s book about some of her adventures, i, “Travels With Maggie” was recently published and is available on Amazon. She feels the book will fit nicely on any book shelf next to Steinbeck’s “Travels With Charlie.” At least that’s her dream. Since beginning their travels in the rolling home they call Gypsy Lee, she and Maggie traveled over 130,000 miles together. She and Pepper have done 7,000 miles together and look forward to more.
Pat, Did/Do you live in Ogden? If so, I met you several years ago when I was visiting and went on a Sat. walk.
Judy
Yes Judy, I did live in Ogden … and I’m familiar with your blog, Judy’s Jottings, I believe. How are you doing and what are you up to.
Pat Bean … patbean@msn.com
This is so random: my neighbor has taken several women’s writing workshops and was encouraging me to participate in an upcoming workshop in Round Top, Texas. I do not write, but told her that I wanted to take off for a year in an RV (not purchased) and develop a blog for my 4 grandchildren. Voila! She sends me this site with your information.
Your travels sound marvelous, and I am so anxious to hit the road myself. I have so many questions about your camper, places you stay, etc., etc. Do you have earlier “blogs” telling about how you prepared for your travels?
This is my last year of being a sorority housemother in Austin so I have a year to plan and purchase a camper. The planning is already making the trip seem real.
Have a good weekend.

Hiya expatriate! You are looking good, Pat. I echo MP before me . . . that is that your lifestyle is on my bucket list too! Ogden is still in the slow change mode. It may arrive someday. Let me know when you roll through town, k? Meantime, nice blog and may the breeze be at your back. Bee well!!
I had to catch up this evening after another 12 hour day at the hospital…someday… someway…I’ll make it to retirement and travels.
I do enjoy getting out into the garden after I get home thanks to daylight-savings time. I hope it will be permanent one day.
I loved your recent posts and signed up so they come to my in-box and I won’t be so far behind. I so enjoy the blog!
Cheers!

Hi Pat, I couldn’t find your email anywhere on here but wanted to say I’d never dare do that. I’ve never flown and am afraid of heights. Anyway, I’m writing a book about women fifty and older and would love to include a chapter about your experience on your jump from a plane. If youd be willing to write up about your jump and things youve done since you turned fifty, email me for more info. I have room for a few more ladies if anyone else would care to do this. Thanks email me at sdicks@blomand.net Shirley
pat, you are lovely.

Hi Pat,

Hi Pat
I get the impression that perhaps you’re not the type of person to go in for this type of thing, so no offence if you’d prefer to not proclaim it! Even so I would like to pass on the One lovely blog award to you

I’m not sure I ever thanked you for this. So I’m thanking you now. I really appreciate it. I found your e-mail in my flagged messages that I meant to get back to, and finally am. Life’s been hectic the past couple of weeks and I’m packing today to fly to Chicago tomorrow to see a son I haven’t seen in three years. Have a great week. And thanks again.
Keep writing … Pat Bean https://patbean.wordpress.com

Thanks for the award. I use my Bean’s Pat to play it back. I’ve been off the grid because of being in the boonies and your comment was the first e-mail I read. What a great way to start catching up again.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I just checked out some of yours and I am happy to be following you now. I am a sucker for a good quote and I love how you’ve started every post with a quote!
Thanks allax. I hope you enjoy my journeys.
Hi there Pat, it’s taken me a little while to get here, but lovely to meet you and your Pepper. Sorry for the loss of Maggie, though…it seems like they’re with us for such a short time before they say goodbye. Sometimes too short. Will now take a little meander around your blog…Happy travelling to you 🙂
Thanks for coming along on my journeys Alarna
That book you’re writing? Best wishes with that one and your travels.
Yes. Thanks for reminding me.
AnElephantCant think of anything clever to say
This happens time after time
But he wants you to know
That he likes you and so
He says hello with this silly rhyme
Thanks for your visits.
Thanks for the rhyme. It’s special, and your blogs make me smile. I like that.
Older Couple!!!
We’re the older couple you met at Starbucks. Let’s have a cup of coffee together soon. Bob —
Sounds great Bob. I’ll e-mail you and we can talk about a time. Thanks.
Thanks Alex. I did. I spent the weekend at my daughter’s house and my fantastic son-in-law washed my RV, Gypsy Lee, for me.

Pat, my name is David McClendon, and I’m trying to find if Robert Rutledge Joseph has any living children. I believe his estate still owns mineral rights in Cleburne, TX and I’m trying to tract down any of his descendants. My email is included below. I would welcome a 2-minute phone call to discuss, as well. Thanks!
Hi David. Robert Rutledge Joseph was my grandfather. I never met him. He died when I was six years old. My son, Lewis, is into genealogy and has a tremendous amount of information on him., His e-mail is lewbypg30@hotmail.com He is really the person you need to talk to. I have five children, 15 grandchildren, and soon to be three great-grandchildren who would all be among his descendants. Good luck.
I live in Phoenix and found you thru Wazeau’s blog.
Glad you found me Candace. I hope you stick around
Life on the road in a small van is pure gypsy living. The freedom to wander, I love it and we did it in Australia for 4 years.
Delighted to have discovered your freewheeling blog. Looking forward to your story unfolding. Regards from Thom at the immortal jukebox (plugged in now).
Gad you found me Thom. Have a great day.

Hi Pat
Just wanted to give you a shout-out and a big thank you for reviewing my book! I really appreciate your taking the time to read it. And being compared to Agatha Christie? What mystery writer could ask for more.
Peace,
Carolyn Wilkins
You’re welcome Carolyn. I liked your snoopy, busybody Bertie.
Wow! What a great blog!
I see we already have a bunch in common. I am really looking forward to reading about some of your adventures. We have a TT and have traveled in short trips. .. dreaming of the day it becomes permanent. Just need to secure a humble income I can do on the road and the anchor will be stowed!
I had to wait until I retired to hit the road, but after nine awesome years of awesome travel, I’ve nested in a small third-floor walk up apartment in Tucson with the Catalina Mountains as my back yard. Hope you get to do the full-time travel thing. Meanwhile thanks for following me Plant Girl.
Thanks for the follow!
Yes, I would buy your book but will you please do a book tour that includes your old stomping grounds of Ogden, Utah? I would love to have you personally autograph it!
Thanks for the suggestion Carolyn. I will be in Ogden in September, and hopefully will have books by then to sell. Perhaps one of the local bookstores will sponsor me. I’m soaking up all the marketing ideas I can get right now and this is a very helpful one.
.Hi Pat, I remember meeting you at SCN Conference. I believe we were circle buddies.
hI Sis. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
