“To stand at the edge of the sea, to sense the ebb and flow of the tides, to feel the breath of a mist moving over a great salt marsh, to watch the flight of shore birds that have swept up and down the surf lines of the continents for untold thousands of years, to see the running of the old eels and the young shad to the sea, is to have knowledge of things that are as nearly eternal as any earthly life can be.” – Rachel Carson
Boardwalk Through the Marsh
Point Pelee is the southernmost point in mainland Canada, and is part of a bird and butterfly migration corridor over Lake Erie. Over 360 species of birds have been sighted here. It was a beautiful place to visit, which I did in 2006.
Bean’s Pat: Grand Teton National Park http://tinyurl.com/6w4leaa Yet another of my favorite places. Blog pick of the day from this wondering wanderer, who is flying to Texas to attend a granddaughter’s wedding.
We just left Grand Teton NP, as beautiful a place as you can find anywhere. But now you’ve got me wanting to visit parks in Canada.
Happy travels.
Jasper and Banff are among my favorite Canadian parks. Hope you get to go there.
I love your pictures, Pat, especially one with lily pads. I am always surprised how many people in Ontario know very little about such fantastic place, as Point Pelee definitely is. We’ve just returned from weekend-long vacation there. Even though this is not right season for wildlife viewing (considering mainly birds), I was surprised by possibilities the national park offers also in summer, this summer guide to Point Pelee includes several tips as well. I am sure to come back again, and can highly recommend this place for unforgettable vacation.
I think it’s like that everywhere. I meet many people who don’t know the wonders in their own backyards. Glad you enjoyed Point Pelee. I only had an afternoon there but I thought it was fantastic. I took one of the guided hikes.
