Until I Thought about my Favorite Books
I think I have writer’s block. I’ve spent the past half hour writing opening sentences for three potential blog topics, then deleted all the words because I didn’t seem to have anything else to add to the first sentences.

Sky and water study from the past. It’s interesting to compare my art. I think my current work needs more freedom from my earlier work when I really didn’t know what I was doing.
What seemed like brilliant ideas at first simply went nowhere.
. In desperation, I came up with the idea to share the titles of my 10 favorite books. I actually continued on until I had 63 titles, but these were the first 10 that popped into my head. .
They were:
“Gone with the Wind,” by Margaret Mitchell.
“The Farseer Trilogy” by Robin Hobb.
“The Help,” BY Katheryn Stockett.
“Pillars of the Earth,” by Ken Follett.
“The Great Santini” by Pat Conroy.
“Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood,” by Rebecca Wells.
“Road Fever” by Tim Cahill.
“Wild America” by Roger Tory Peterson and James Fisher.
The World According to Garp” by John Irving.
“I Married Adventure” by Osa Johnson.
What 10 books would you name off the top of your head?
Bean Pat: Mom, We Did It http://tinyurl.com/pxp25yx An amazing story when so much chaos is going on in this world. It gives me hope for a better future.
you are indeed funny art is nice too,,, maybe a case of survivoritis
Yes. I did watch the premier of Survivor this morning Cindi.
Bladerunner,
Lord of the Rings,
The Art Of Travel,
Wild,
Arctic Dreams,
Neuromancer,
The Dorsai Trilogy (I know, not technically one book)
Friday,
The Moon is a Harsh Mistress,
Human Chain.
Stopping here could be an issue, and the list changes every time I write it. So I won’t be held accountable for it in other places.
Jim
I/m currently reading Wild, and Lord of the Rings and The Art of Travel are among the 63 I came up with off the top of my head. And my list too is ever changing and growing Jim. Thanks for your list. I’ll check some of them out.
I’m not sure I could list 10 books off the top of my head, it would take some thought.
For sure Lord of the Rings would be there, and The World According to Garp. (Or really ANYTHING by John Irving. A Prayer For Owen Meany was my favorite…I think!) Also, Love In The Time Of Cholera By Gabriel Garcia Marquez would absolutely have to be included, as would Joseph Heller’s Catch 22. Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451, and The Martian Chronicles would make the list. Huxley’s Brave New World, for sure. Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy by Douglas Adams, a ‘trilogy’ of five books. 😉 Oh, and definitely Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four.
Oh, wow, I guess I can name 10!
And I bet if you thought a bit more, another 10 would come to your head. I love your choices. I think books we love say a lot about who we are.
“The Living,” Annie Dillard
“Cities of Gold,” Preston
“These is my words” (trilogy), Turner
“The Worst Hard Times”, Egan
“Stories from the country of Lost Borders,” Mary Austin
“Killing Mr. Watson,” Matthissen
“Tough Trip through Paradise,” Garcia
“The Crossing,” McCarthy
“Outlander,” Adamson
“Tenderness of Wolves,” Penney
I think there’s a theme here – humans, especially women, against the elements.
Reminds me, Molly Gloss – “Jump-off Creek”
