“The bird that would soar above the level plain of tradition and prejudice must have strong wings.” — Unknown
First came the hummingbirds to my nectar feeder. Then one day I looked out and the verdins had come to dinner, too.
Then came another guest. A gila woodpecker.
No wonder my nectar feeder is empty before day’s end.
Bean’s Pat: Great Friends http://tinyurl.com/mdplxmy It makes me wonder if the hummingbirds had sent out invitations to dinner for their unusual
friends.
I had no idea that other birds could drink from a hummingbird feeder- the woodpecker must be a contortionist. I have been tiny birds I didn’t know, they might be verdins. Just learning all the time.
Orioles also like to drink from hummingbird feeders. The verdins were my big surprise as I have seen woodpeckers turn into contortionists to do so before.
Never seen either of these. Thanks for sharing.
I’m with mountainmae, I’ve never seen any other than hummers feeding from a hummingbird feeder. Gotta love that woodpecker!
I’m delighted to have shown you something new Alex, since I’m always learning new things from your blog.
Then you must be delighted ALL the time Pat, because you’re always teaching me something.
