“Distrust any enterprise that requires new clothes.” – Henry David Thoreau
And that’s the Truth
For the past nine years, my wardrobe consisted almost entirely of cargo pants and shorts worn with a T-shirt top and a pair of tennis shoes. Occasionally I bought a dress for a granddaughter’s wedding or some other special occasion but usually gave it away because it took up too much space in my RV’s small closet.

For emergency situations, when T-shirts weren’t exactly appropriate, I had a nice pair of black pants and a couple of nice tops.
The one summer nice top I have, I realized this morning, is dirty because I wore it when I was taken out to breakfast by a son-in-law and three grandsons for Mother’s Day. I wore it with a pair of cotton culottes – is that term even still used? — that was barely a fashion step up from shorts. But then it was just Denny’s.
Today I’m going out to lunch with a group of women to a nicer place and they, I know, from past lunches, don’t eat lunch in shorts and a T-shirt. And summer in Tucson, which has finally arrived, is a big no-no for hot-bodied me and black pants.
I know women are always stereotyped as complaining they have nothing to wear, but that’s a fact for me this morning. I’m going to have to make an early shopping expedition as soon as I post this. I can’t think of anything more unpleasant. I truly do hate shopping for clothes.

At least you’re not shopping for clothes because you’ve outgrown the ones you already own 😉
Been there done that, however, Sherry.
I also hate shopping for clothes. I prefer bookstores.
Hey, I know that lady on the bridge!
I’m not a big clothes shopper either – give me a bookshop or a kitchen shop…..! Hope you found something and that you enjoyed your lunch. 🙂
I’d look like a million dollars if I spent as much on clothes as I do on books.
Hope you can find something. Maybe a nice sundress. I try to shop at resale shops then I don’t feel guilty if I don’t keep it.
I found a new top, which I ended up wearing with my black pants after all. I bought a pair of pants but decided I really didn’t like them once I got back home. I think I just wanted to get out of the store. My luncheon was nice It’s always fun to meet with other women who still have a big zest for life.
Wow Pat, this is yet another thing you and I seem to have in common! I’m not a shopper to say the least, and that goes doubly so for clothes shopping. My ‘wardrobe’, if it can be called that, is very basic and very sparse. To me, clothing must meet 2 requirements – it must be suitable for the environment, and it must be comfortable. Fashion rarely, if ever, comes into play. I had to laugh when I read about your 2 nice tops, because I also have a grand total of 2 which I can match up with skirts. (I’m a skirt gal, I don’t even own a pair of pants! Again, it’s a comfort and environment thing.)
I used to be a skirt gal, but tennis shoes go better with shorts and pants, and I started wearing tennis shoes all the time after foot surgery 15 years ago because of the better support, and because I’m always ready to go for a walk. Of course inside I’m usually barefoot.
You know what Pat, I think that is true for more women than people realize. I am so there with you on the whole clothing of things! Good luck shopping (another thing I’m happy to ignore as much as possible!). I like the photo of you by the way, great shot of you (and your cargo pants/t-shirt) communing with nature! Have a great lunch with friends! 🙂
Thanks Penny. I’ve noticed over the years that all the pictures I like best of myself are when I’m in the middle of Mother Nature.
Telling isn’t it, Pat, in an absolutely delightful way, I might add!
