“Oh the places you’ll go (and the things you will see) … You have brains in your head, you have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose…. Your mountain is waiting, So… get on your way” – Dr. Seuss
Planning the Dream
When I set out in Gypsy Lee to see as much of this awesome country as I could, it was at the end of years of dreaming and many months of planning.

Now, after almost nine years of on the road living and traveling, I’m beginning to dream once again. This time it’s of a round-the-world trip.My must-stops for such an adventure are: Australia, so I can visit Alice Springs, Uluru and travel across the continent on a train; China, so I can stand on the Great Wall; Portugal, because my great-great-great grandfather was a Portuguese sailor who jumped ship in America; Paris, so I can visit The Louvre; England, so I can see in person some of the settings of the British mysteries that I love to read; Ushuaia; because, well just because; and Zimbabwe, so I can see Victoria Falls.
Several airlines and travel trek companies are willing to help me plan just such a trip, I discovered this morning when I started an Internet search. I even started filling out a travel planner with one of them.
I’m truly hoping life, physically and financially, will allow me my dream. But if not, I’m sure having fun with the planning. It’s another kind of arm-chair travel that I find so fascinating.
If you could take such a trip, where would you go?
Bean’s Pat: Great Gray Owl http://tinyurl.com/b7o29ac Fantastic photos of a bird that is still on my dream list as I’ve never yet seen one in the wild.
I have traveled little outside the US. I consider Mexico and Canada as accessible, logical extensions of my full-timing life. Two places I have been I loved so much, I’d consider returning before trying any of th 1000 new places: Istanbul and New Zealand
So much to see and so little time left us Al. I’m going to fly into Rhode Island in the spring, perhaps for my 74th birthday in April just so I will have visited 50 states. Not sure how I missed Rhode Island. Hope life’s treating you well Al. Happy travels.
Love to travel more international:) Looking at Ireland in 2014. I would love to see Australia and New Zealand. Germany is a must travel do. So many places to see. Happy Friday!
Uluru, Ayers Rock, is No. 1 on my priority. Not sure why but it’s calling to me. Happy adventuring.
You travel plans sound wonderful. I would go back to Paris–didn’t see nearly enough of the Louvre, or the city–and all over the British Isles, inching around London to see all the nooks and crannies–and Prince Edward Island, Machu Pichu, Turkey, Venice and Florence–just everywhere.
So much to see and so little time. I hope you get back to Paris Kathy.
I would first get to Ireland as fast as I could-then see the Louve, the statues, to Italy to see Rome and then the the beauty of Greece. I would next jet to Egypt to see the Pyramids I have only seen from air, finishing in Australia!!!!
Isn’t it fun contemplating such trips, Nancilynn. And that is always the first part of any journey.
I think I would like to travel to Jupiter!
Oh Yes. What a great adventure that would be Deborah.
Woohoo! What an exciting post! My list is quite long. (Isn’t everyone’s though?!) Argentina, Portugal, and Turkey are very high up there. And speaking of high up there…I like Deborah Lee’s Jupiter wish! But considering it’s distance (5.2 AUs from the sun), I’m thinking I don’t have that kinda time. 😉 I’d gladly settle for a visit to the ISS in low Earth orbit!
But we can dream, can’t we. Thanks Alex. Happy travels
