“Does the road wind uphill all the way?
Yes, to the very end.
Will the journey take the whole day?
From morn to night, my friend.” – Christina Rossetti, 1830-1894
Discovering the Wondering Wanderer
I was a late bloomer, a wisp of a girl who grew up too fast, going from taking care of three younger brothers to a too-young marriage and taking care of five kids of my own.
It wasn’t until I was nearly 40 that it dawned on me that I had no idea who the woman I had become was. Trying to answer that question began a new, and very surprising, journey for me. It’s one that has been full of both heartache and joy, and one that continues to this day.
The truth is, I’m many persons in one: Writer, mother, grandmother, traveler, birder, friend, adventuress, tree-hugger, nature enthusiast, reader, peace advocate, feminist,, animal lover and currently campground host. I’m sure there’s a few more tags somewhere around that I could add.
But lately I’ve been calling myself the wondering wanderer. It’s a descriptive phrase that I’ve decided fits me as well as a clingy leotard, not that I would put one of those on my over-ripe body these days.
In my own way, I’ve always been a wondering wanderer. And now I wonder why I didn’t understand it sooner.
So how would you describe yourself? This wondering old broad would love to know.
Bean’s Pat: 20 Minutes a Day http://tinyurl.com/77t2488 The Consequences of Being Nice. This blog certainly gave me something to think about. Blog pick of the day from the wondering wanderer.
Here is what I have on my blog – In a nutshell: Curious, funny, reader, writer, Momma, Nana, happily married 38 years, baker, crafter, craft volunteer, pacifist, spiritual feminist, Rubenesque! Life’s an adventure!
But to put it even more succinctly – I am a whimsical mystery! 🙂
The last is the best of all. Except for the married baker, we have a lot in common, too.

Somewhere I read that my name, Deborah, meant “the seeker”, which I thought was a good description of me!
What a wonderful name, and description of yourself. I like it.
absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!
Thank you.

You are Love’s own light. Blessed Be
I’m a wanderer too. You see me over here in desert land, last year in Taiwan and looking to head back home. Like yourself, I’ve many titles. I’ve tried to claim other titles and be other things I always have to come back to being that creative being I was meant to be. Looking forward to going home and wearing that shoe. Finally.
Perhaps it’s the wanderer in you that makes me enjoy your blog so much. And wandering, I’ve learned, doesn’t have to involve travel. Thanks for commenting Totsymae.

I love your description of you. I think it fits you well. 🙂
I’m in the midst of figuring out who I am, but rambling photographer is on the list somewhere.
fantastic photographer fits you well, too.
as I am experiencing a 22 yr marriage deteriorating at age 41…I’m realizing why I’m attracted to your blog and your life. As only having one child left at home for next year 1/2 I’m realizing I’m a dreamer. I want to get into a little camper and travel and see all of our national parks..after the initial shock of it all…instead of nervousness, I’m actually excited for my future- I’m taking over my 40’s! I need to answer to the woman that I am!
Interesting. I stayed married to the wrong person until I was almost 40. Life only got better after I divorced him. It was only after 40 that I started doing things. 40 is a great age, and it’s only gotten better with time.
