“To find the universal elements enough; to find the air and the water exhilarating; to be refreshed by a morning walk or an evening saunter; to be thrilled by the stars at night; to be elated over a bird’s nest or a wildflower in spring – these are some of the rewards of the simple life.” ~John Burroughs
Birding Day
I abandoned my blog this morning, and spent the day out birding with my son Lewis. I just barely got back, and words always fail me this time of day. So I’ll simply share one of the photos I took today. Hopefully you’ll think it worth my usual 350 words.

Lovely picture. And now reading “The Big Year” I have more understanding of birders! I have always loved watching birds but not obsessively. BTW, I am so obsessive about reading I spent the last 2 1/2 hours with a flashlight tucked under my chin in order to get a few more chapters in while the power was out. Guess I’m not any less crazy than those who take a helicopter ride in a snowstorm to find a snowy plover!!
Yup! We all have our obsessions — and isn’t that great!

Spending time with your son sounds like it’s worth more than anything in the world!
Pat, I love your pictures of birds. I’ve always loved birds, but never had the patience to try and photograph one. They move around too much.
Birds were the first, and still about the only, thing in which I exhibit patience. It’s normally full-speed-ahead, and damn the torpedoes. But then that a natural Aries trait. I don’t get too many good shots of birds, however. with my point and shoot pocket digital, so thanks for liking the ones I do get.
